About Pet Rats
Hi Antonia,
I hope it’s okay with you if I combine your 3 questions into 1 and respond to them all at once. Here are the 3 questions I received from you:
I have 2 rats a 1 & a2 yr old they are both female. I’m interested in any help you can give me in any area as i really know nothing about rats other than looking things up & asking at pet shops.

I meant to say unsalted sunflower seeds. I don’t feed them a lot of the nuts & fruits they almost share a small apple today it’s a part of a pear to share with me no seeds no skin. I just love the little critters I call them Stars cuz that’s what they are backwards too! They have never bitten any of us they are so precious to us
Thank you Aleonetti
First of all, CongRATulations on your new family members! They definitely are stars!
My website is geared especially for people who are relatively new to pet rats. I suggest you read through the main tabs on my site. Each of these tabs addresses an important area about which it’s helpful and important to become familiar: Housing, Nutrition, Health Then, later on you can fill in your knowledge by reading through my blog posts. Of course, there are lots of other great websites available as well.
Regarding their diet, I recommend you read my section on rat nutrition mentioned above. In general, they should eat a high quality commercial rat diet. It’s helpful to supplement their diet with organic fruits and vegetables but Oxbow kibble or Envigo lab blocks should be the main part of their diet. Nuts and seeds need to be given very sparingly since they’re high in fat. Rats gain weight easily, so be extra careful with high fat foods.
I’m excited for you getting started with your new rats. You’ll be amazed at how much there is to learn AND how helpful it is to keep expanding your knowledge on how to care for your rats.
Let me know if you have any additional questions anytime. Meanwhile, welcome to your new family members, Princess Lizzie and Moonlight.
Best Wishes to You & Your Rats!
