It’s amazing the things Henderson does with his tail! Rats use their tails as an extra arm or leg, similar to monkeys. In lieu of an arm, Henderson wraps his tail around Twyla. Rat tails help with balance and agility. Having no fur allows them to regulate their body temperature by constricting or dilating their tail blood vessels to release or conserve heat. How ingenious!

That is interesting.
Thanks, Ellen. I appreciate your stopping by! You never know what you’ll learn, right?! :)
It’s amazing how many people don’t like rats simply because of their tails. It’s just a tail! I actually like petting the tails a bit lol. Cute pictures today!
Thanks, Ann! I agree, it’s absurd to not like an animal just because it doesn’t have fur on it’s tail. I like petting their tails, too!
Isn’t nature amazing? I love how everything works so perfectly (unless we mess with it). Your rats are absolutely adorable! Henderson’s tail wrapping is very cute.
Thanks, Robin. He’s a tail wrapper all right and yes, I totally agree, nature IS amazing!
That first picture is absolutely adorable!
Thanks so much, Taryn! I think part of the reason Henderson can curl his tail so tightly is he’s missing cartilage at the very tip. I’ve learned from one of his veterinarians this is not uncommon for Rex (curly-furred) rats.
I love how I learn so much about animals by visiting new blogs. Thanks
Thanks so much for your comment, Cathy! I love the learning, too. :)
